Set up Solar PPA billing: map contracts, customers and meters
Bay,Bradley

Setting up Solar PPA billing starts with a clear relationship between the customer, site, contract and agreed electricity record. If those records are connected incorrectly, later invoices can inherit the error. The following preparation checklist is a suggested starting point for the project, engineering and billing staff.

1. Build a contract and site register

A PPA identifies the electricity seller and purchaser and the agreed purchase terms. Use the signed agreement as the source for the register.

  • Customer and site

Assign distinct customer, site and contract identifiers. Record the billing recipient and the contacts responsible for technical and commercial questions.

  • Applicable version

Keep the effective dates and approved contract version with the record. Retain the previous version when terms change.

2. Map the electricity record to the contract

Have engineering and billing staff confirm which measurement the agreement uses. Document the mapping before importing production history.

  • Meter identity

Record the meter identifier, location, measurement boundary and source file or connection. Label production-monitoring and settlement records by their actual purpose.

  • Changes over time

When a meter is replaced, retain the old and new identifiers and changeover time. Check how the applicable agreement treats the transition.

3. Test a handover before the first billing cycle

Our suggested acceptance exercise is to follow one sample contract from the source document to its site and meter record. Staff should be able to identify the same customer and measurement point without relying on a file name alone.

  • A deliberate test case

Use two sites belonging to one customer and confirm that each meter points to the intended contract. Record and correct any ambiguous mapping.

  • Handover owner

Name who maintains the register, who reviews a change and where the approved records are kept. Prepare the source data and access needed by the billing staff.

Frequently asked questions

Can the inverter total be used as the settlement record?

Only if it matches the agreed measurement basis. Identify the source specified by the contract before configuring the mapping.

Must every customer be imported at once?

A practical first step is one representative contract and site. Confirm the fields, source data and handover, then extend the agreed structure.
