Every organisation already has somewhere to keep files. The problem is not the lack of a place. It is that the same file exists in several versions in several places, and nobody can say for certain which one is the version actually in use.

Most of the knowledge that actually keeps an organisation running is not in a file. It is in the head of whoever has been doing that job for years. When that person leaves or moves teams, the knowledge goes with them.
