A single scan helps receiving only when the label can be translated into the data the warehouse needs. A warehouse management system (WMS) must identify the product, lot, dates and units. The industry’s Sunrise 2027 transition toward 2D barcodes provides a reason to review receiving, while actual label formats and connections still require assessment.

1. Understand the 2027 scope
GS1’s industry goal is for retail points of sale to read and process 2D barcodes by the end of 2027. It is not a blanket legal deadline to replace every Thai warehouse’s WMS.
More data can be carried
Depending on the chosen format, codes can identify products and include lot or date information. Agree which fields suppliers actually provide.
QR codes have different purposes
A code opening a website is different from one carrying structured product data. Successful phone scanning does not prove warehouse parsing works.
2. Define data before choosing a reader
Establish product references, receiving units and supplier-code mappings before evaluating scanners and software.
Test several suppliers
Use actual small, creased or faint labels. Compare decoded results with required fields rather than assuming every code includes a lot.
Handle incomplete scans
Distinguish missing information, unknown formats and duplicate codes. Provide a reviewed correction process instead of filling unsupported values.
3. Measure completed receipts per hour
Trial one product group and assess both time and data quality.
Measure beyond scan speed
Track receipt time per line, the share requiring no extra typing and corrections after receipt. Speed should not hide inaccurate records.
Expand after verification
Confirm field extraction, existing-system connections and offline procedures before adding products or suppliers.
Frequently asked questions
Must 1D barcodes be abandoned immediately?
No. Sunrise 2027 does not imply that. Plan for the labels trading partners already use alongside new formats where needed.
Does DigitechX support every label format out of the box?
Sample labels and required fields must be assessed with the reader, parser and WMS connection before the project scope is agreed.
